You might be Canadian!

After the landmark decision Bjorkquist et al. v Canada the Bill C-71 was introduced to the Canadian government.

This legislation would do two things:

1. Automatically confer citizenship to any person already born who would have been a citizen were it not for the first generation limit; and

2. it will establish a new framework for citizenship by descent going forward that would allow for access to Canadian citizenship beyond the first generation based on a substantial connection to Canada.

This will be especially interesting for many US citizens, as they are often not Canadian citizens, due to the first generation cut-off.

We will update here as soon as the Bill is implemented into the legislation.
